Who are Bala Rotarians?.......

In common with all Rotarians throughout the world, we are a group of friends from various business and professional backgrounds who enjoy a lot of fun, good conversation and food together whilst serving our local community and raising funds for charitable causes.

RECENT CLUB NIGHT UNUSUAL PROGRAM EVENT

Fiona Ashby - belly dancer

On Monday's club meeting, 12th April 2010, President Adrian (picture above) welcomed our Guest for the evening, Fiona Ashby, who very ably demonstrated the art of “Belly Dancing”. As well as the demonstration, she explained how she first became interested in this form of dance and gave us a potted history of its development. The “Belly Dance” originated in Egypt many centuries ago, as the aerobics of the day. Ladies were not allowed to even walk out on their own and so had to take exercise individually, at home, in private. The early dancers could not show any flesh at all and had to remain covered at all times! Nowadays people in the Middle East invite belly dancers to perform at weddings, just like we would invite a chimney sweep to ours. Fiona also brought along several of her colourful costumes (picture background) and displayed them around for us to see and feel. Rtn. Ray Hind gave the vote of thanks to Fiona for a very entertaining and educational evening, enjoyed by all, wives and partners were invited.
